Wikipedia - Potential source for inbound links

WikipediaFor those who don’t know, there is a fantastic resource called Wikipedia, self described as the free-content encyclopedia that anyone can edit. I have occasionally used Wikipedia to research topics when I wasn’t having luck with Google.

Recently while reviewing website log files for one of my websites I discovered one of the Wikipedia pages was linking to me. The page linking to me was the Beechcraft Skipper page. The Beech Aero Club is an owners and pilots association which provides support for the Beechcraft Skipper, Beech Duchess, Beech Musketeer, Beech Sport, Beechcraft Sundowner, and Beech Sierra aircraft.

I noticed that there were a few other pages for Beechcraft airplanes in the Wikipedia that should link to the Beech Aero Club. Since the Wikipedia can be edited by anyone I went ahead and added the links myself!

So if your website is an authority on a particular topic then search the Wikipedia and create an external link to your website! You will have one more inbound link to help increase your Page Rank and drive traffic to your site from the increasingly popular Wikipedia!

To create the link look and see if there is already a ‘External Link’ section on the Wikipedia page you wish to edit. If there is then click the ‘Edit’ button beside the existing link(s) and add your link in the same format as the existing links. If there is not already an ‘Eternal Link’ section then edit the page and add a link section. The following example shows how the link section should be setup.

==External Link==

The first line creates the new section on the page and the second line gives the URL and page title. Wiki-away!
