Use Text, Not Images When You Want to Display Text
Last week I blogged about how many websites use images to create fancy text instead of using actual styled text. An extreme example of this is the website for Sky Designs Products.
Sure, there is plenty of text on the site you and I as humans can read. However 100% of that text is comprised of images. There isn’t any real text there! Let’s use a couple of tools to see how a search engine reads this site.
This link will show you how the page is currently indexed by Google. Notice that there isn’t any text listed between Google’s page title and the URL Google lists. Compare this to a similar search of my website. Ignoring the fact that there are more page results returned, notice that there are a couple of lines of text between the page titles and page URLs.
Another tool we can use is seo-browser.com. You can view the report of Sky Designs Products from this link. Do you see anything there about aircraft cleaning supplies? Their website has been online for two years and so far they have received zero orders as a result of their website. Hopefully this will all change very soon. Stay tuned for details on their new e-commerce site.
