The Power of the Blogger

After starting blogging I’m continually amazed at the emails and comments I get back. I’ve been frequently blogging about different software applications I use. Nearly 50% of the time I blog about a particular software application I get a note from the author or publisher.

Frequently these notes are thanks for blogging about them. A couple of times I’ve written that there was a feature missing that I desired and the authors have written back that the feature was there, just hard to find. Other times the author says they’ve added my feature request to their development list. I’ve also had invitations to join beta testing groups and get copies of pre-release software.

The most astonishing response was when I commented that a piece of demo software should be time crippled rather than feature crippled. In that case the author offered me a full, unrestricted copy of the software for evaluation saying he trusted I would purchase the software if it met my needs. I’ve received better technical support when I’ve blogged about a problem then I probably would have received emailing Support or asking in a discussion forum.

This really makes me think about the power of the blogger. I remember when the Internet was considered taboo for research in education. I’m sure there are plenty of blogs out there with factual errors in them, but this really makes me think about the power of the blogger…. For now anyway.
