Rebuilding Sites for better SEO

Lwt-Small-LogoI’ve just finished rebuilding a site for a client who offers translation services, LWT Communications. A graphic designer had created the original site, and there wasn’t much actual text on the site for search engines to gobble up. The designer had basically taken the work and created jpeg files for each of the pages. A picture is only worth 1000 words to human eyes…. it isn’t worth practically anything to a search engine.

So I’ve rebuilt the site using text wherever practical. There were a few design elements I was asked to change, but by and large this isn’t a site I did any of the design for.

The old site had been running for several months, however traffic was extremely low, about three dozen visitors during one recent month. I’ll be anxious to see how much more traffic there will be in May when there is much more good content to grab.

LWT Communications provides translation services for technical, automotive, and pharmaceutical companies using really cool technology like translation memory.

The site still has a little work left to go, however it is in a stage close enough now that the changes have been published to their live site. If you need a translator, contact LWT Communications.

Another good characteristic of the rebuild is that the entire site now has a more modular back end. If the client wishes a font size changed, text color changed, or a new menu added I can make those changes in one place. Each section of each page is created through various custom PHP functions that build the page. CSS files hold the majority of the style information. Therefore one global change to the site like changing the default font family can be made in one place in one file which then replicates through the site.

To change that via the old design would require going back to the layered Photoshop file for each page, making the font change, exporting the file as a jpeg, then uploading the new files to the server. That process would take several hours to complete. Now I can make the change in one spot and literally seconds later the entire site has been updated.
