Google Patent Uncovers Search Engine Optimization Hints ?

Google Logo Many people have recently discovered a patent filed by Google which discusses many of their techniques for rating websites. Knowing exactly how Google ranks sites would be a gold-mine for search engine optimizers as there would no longer be speculation as to the best way to achieve high rankings in Google.

It should be noted that the patent is a couple years old and thus even if this was the holy grail of Google algorithms it might still be out of date. I’ll also throw out the possibility that there could be some disinformation or at least information that never made it into the current ranking algorithms. Don’t forget that Apple Computer has had patents for tablet based Mac computers for quite awhile now and those never saw the light of day.

I don’t think there was anything earth shattering in the patent. The Google aging delay (aka sandbox), search engine spam, link farms, yada yada yada are nothing new. However it does provide more evidence about common search engine optimization techniques. It also affirms that off-page search engine optimization is just as important as on-page SEO.

Take a look at commentary about the Google patent and decide for yourself. In short good old fashion content and not becoming obsessive about improving your SE optimization is the best SEO money can buy.
