Yesterday I had the opportunity to play around with a copy of Dreamweaver on a friend’s computer. Mainly I wanted to play around with the PHP/MySQL integration and see if I could develop a web-app via WYSIWYG. I didn’t hold high expectations.
If you want to learn PHP/MySQL, this isn’t the way to do it. Without [...]

I was recently contacted regarding my review of Xyle Scope by one of the authors of AppZapper. Sure, I’ll take it for a spin!
AppZapper is a tool which facilitates uninstalling applications from your Mac that either do not come with their own uninstaller application (which is most applications out there.) Die-hard Mac people are probably [...]

About once per week I try to take a look at security and crack down on any vulnerabilities I can find. Sometimes it is as simple as shredding documents lying around while other times it is something like further restricting access to certain points on my server.
Today I’ve been thinking that it would be really [...]

Today marks the birthday for the Macintosh line of Apple computers. Back in 1984 Apple had released the now infamous “big brother” commercial in which they proclaimed “And you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like 1984″.
The original Mac was offered at $2500 and included an extremely revolutionary device…. a mouse.

(Are you looking for how to read the uptime command?)
When I opened Server Monitor this morning I was greeted by a nice surprise. The uptime command reports:
up 100 days
Of course an uptime of 100 days isn’t a big deal. But I can say that with somewhere around 70 sites running on the server, a couple [...]

I really liked the idea of Automator and how it is basically a drag and drop version of AppleScript. However I never really found a good use for it until now. Maybe I’m [...]

Seems like it was just a few months ago I purchased iWork and iLife ‘05. (Oh wait, it was). And now somehow I feel compelled to spend another $80 for each of those packages to get the new updates. Here is what I think about it.

Nick Wilson from Performancing recently interviewed Matt Cutts from Google regarding SEO for bloggers. When Matt speaks I listen. One particular Q/A caught my attention.
Q. Can you give the Performancing readers a few tips on ranking in Google?
A. I wouldn’t bother with year/month/day in blog urls; I’d just use the first few words from [...]

EyeTV 2 is an update to the software that drives EyeTV devices from Elgato Systems. Although I’ve only been using the new software for a brief amount of time, I’ll share my thoughts and suggestions for future revisions.
EyeTV 2 comes with a new interface, both in the onscreen remote control (controller) and the primary display [...]

One of the RSS subscriptions I read every morning is the Secunia Security Advisories. This list tells me all of the new vulnerabilities discovered in software. Having my own small “hosting company” I keep tabs on all of the software I or my clients install on the server and compare that list to any security [...]
